Sylvan Lake Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has started a new transportation program for residents living in town.

The new program called Zoomers offers free door-to-door transportation service for older adults, adults with physical challenges, and caregivers with children 0-18.

Zoomers runs on Mondays and Wednesdays to grocery shops or some specialty stores when time permits.

Wendy Prediger a link worker with the FCSS says it's more than just a transportation program.

"Some of the ladies just go for the social aspect. If it's icy out, they just walk around Walmart a few times to get some exercise and then have coffee. It's turned into more of a social event than a shopping event."

The service is available Monday afternoons from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, and Thursday mornings from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

To be eligible for Zoomers, riders must be able to:

  • Participate in a quick in office or telephone intake with our FCSS staff.

  • Get independently out of their home to the curb where the bus will pick them up. The driver will not come the door or port the rider to the bus.

  • Shop independently while in the store.

Please note that there are only two wheelchair accessible spots on the bus.
