The Lacombe AA Generals have a chance to be sipping champagne from the NCHL Vanberg Cup tonight at home.

In front of 550 hometown fans at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex, the Gens beat the Barons 5-1 Friday night. With the win, Lacombe now leads their best-of-seven series 3 games to 1.

Fans watched as there was no scoring until around the 14:00 mark of the second period with a goal from Cam Maclise.

After that it was all Generals as they erupted with four goals in the third. Tj Brown would get the game winning goal, and an insurance goal followed by scoring from Jamie Johnson and Bryce Wilson.

Once again Lacombe relied on Mackenzie Engel in net as he stopped 32 of 33 shots.

Game five goes tonight in Lacombe at 8:30 pm. If the Generals win, they will be the 2024 NCHL Vanberg Cup champions.
