Today is nomination day for the 2024 Red Deer municipal by-election, and staff are on site at city hall to accept nomination packages until noon.

Starting today, eligible voters can apply for a Special Ballot to participate in the by-election.

Special Ballots will be mailed to voters or be made available for pickup and must be returned to the office of the Returning Officer no later than 4:30 p.m. on Election Day.

Special Ballots are available only to those who are unable to vote at an advance vote or at the voting station on Election Day for one of the following reasons:

  • Due to physical disability;

  • The voter will be away from Red Deer;

  • The voter is working in the Election.

Eligible voters will find the special ballot application on the elections website here, or can request one by emailing elections@reddeer.ca or by calling 403-342-8132.

Three advance vote stations will be open on April 18, 19 and 20 at Parkland Mall, Baymont by Wyndham Red Deer and Salon B in the Prairie Pavilion at Westerner Park. Voters can also choose to attend any one of these voting stations on Election Day, April 22. All voting stations are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Accessible voting devices will be available during Advance Vote only at the Parkland Mall and Baymont by Wyndham voting locations.

These devices allow voters with varying abilities to make their selections independently during the advance vote days.

A complete list of candidates will be updated on the election website by March 27.

Residents are encouraged to visit the website for information about the election including voting opportunities, nomination forms, and a list of candidates to date.
