Today is the day, municipal elections are upon us.

Lacombe Returning Officer Dion Pollard says the most important thing to remember to save yourself any hold ups at the polls is your ID.

“Identification is the big thing and having it ready once you get to the voter station is important to keep the line going.  We had some line-ups last time, in some cases an hour long, so the more people are prepared coming in with their identification, with their requirements, the quicker the process goes.  The election workers have been told that even if they know you, they could be your next door neighbour, that if they don’t have identification, you don’t vote”.

One piece of government issued ID like your driver's license or government issued photo ID card works, otherwise documents that establish your name and current address like a bank or credit card statement.

Pollard says they'll once again be using an electronic voting system.

“So this one is a little bit different than last time, you will actually still fill out a paper ballot which will be scanned by a machine and then the machine with tabulate”.

The polls in Lacombe are open from 8-8 at the LMC, legislated hours are 10-8, but the City extended those hours in hopes of accommodating more voters.

Voter turnout in Lacombe in 2013 was about 37%, Pollard would like to see it reach 50% or higher.
