Sylvan Lake to commemorate Truth and Reconciliation Day on Saturday
Sylvan Lake will be hosting a gathering in support of National Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day on Saturday, September 30. The Town of Sylvan Lake will be recognizing the history, heritage, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis. “The Town has made a dedication to walk a path with our Indigenous community and we extend that invitation to people beyond the limits of Sylvan Lake and all central Albertans,” said Tom Bradshaw, Culture Coordinator for the Town of Sylvan Lake. The town has invited the Abraham Lake Singer to the gathering which is an Indigenous drum troop from Alexander First Nation which is located Northwest of Edmonton. “There will be some speeches and presentations from the Indigenous community. Clare Butterfly, who I think is becoming a local legendary in central Alberta will be joining us as well for tepees and tea. It's going to be a reflective and somber event, but we certainly hope people will come out and share the experience with us,” added Bradshaw.
