Environment Canada has issued an additional weather advisory for the day in central Alberta. Conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds today.

This advisory is in effect for the Lacombe, Red Deer, Ponoka, Innisfail and Stettler areas.

These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

This is the third advisory for funnel clouds this week. Another advisory is in place for unseasonable hot and dry conditions this weekend in the same areas.
