The Red Deer RCMP located a stolen vehicle leading to the arrest of one individual.

On March 31, the Red Deer RCMP were conducting proactive patrols when they observed a vehicle that had been reported as stolen earlier that morning.

Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled the scene. The vehicle was located later that night, abandoned, near a residence in Red Deer.

Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services assisted in trying to locate the suspect. Members were able to identify the suspect and they were arrested without incident.

Lucas Werner, (41) a resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Flight from Police
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while over 80mg%
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Fail to comply with release order x2

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Werner was remanded into custody.

He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on April 19.
