The first phase of the Lacombe Athletic Park Association’s (LAPA) $2-million expansion has now been completed at MEGlobal Athletic Park.

“The citizens of Lacombe, the County and Wolf Creek students will be able to reap the benefits of the expanded park for many years to come! We look forward to the many more events we can host and the positive economic impact the phase 1 of expansion brought to the community. Watch out for Phase 2 - Track and Field Facility development,” said LAPA President Jay Adamson.

Phase 1 included the following renovations:

  • Doubled the side of the field house
  • Additional washrooms, changerooms, storage and meeting room
  • An elevator and fully accessible viewing tower with space for media and coaches
  • Timed facilities for a running track

The running track will be completed in Phase 2 of expansion.

Adamson also noted that he is thankful for the community partners who helped make the renovations a reality including the City of Lacombe, Lacombe County, Wolf Creek Public Schools, and MEGlobal. MEGlobal will retain naming rights to the park until 2040 after making a $2 million commitment to the park.

“We are so proud to be part of a project that will bring new opportunities to the community while enhancing the experience for players and fans alike,” he said. “It’s an honor to put our name on this facility,” said MEGlobal Vice President of Manufacturing Rocco Schurink.

An in-person celebration of the expanded facility will be held in the fall.
