Wolf Creek Public Schools has announced two new appointments for local schools.

Ian McLaren has been appointed Principal at Bluffton School.

McLaren makes the move to Bluffton School from the principalship of Eckville Elementary School which he has been at since 2011. He has been a tremendous educator and school leader in Wolf Creek Public Schools since 2001.

"Ian’s leadership journey is a testament to his unwavering dedication and compassionate approach to education. His ability to connect deeply with school communities, coupled with his commitment to servant leadership, makes him the ideal leader for Bluffton School during this time of transition and healing at the school,” Sonja Dykslag, Assistant Superintendent of People Services.

McLaren’s leadership at Eckville Elementary School has been characterised by his effective communication and student-centered approach. In addition to his many years of experience in administration he has cognitive coaching skills, a proficiency in SIVA (Safe Intervention & Violence Prevention), and TES Trauma Response.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Principal at Bluffton School. The students and staff have already made me feel welcome, which is a testament to their amazing resiliency and compassion. I am committed to working with this close-knit community to continue the tradition of excellence at Bluffton School,” said McLaren.

McLaren has a Bachelor of Education and master's in education from the University of Calgary.

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is excited to announce that Darcy Blum has been officially appointed as the Assistant Principal of Lacombe Outreach School, following a year as acting Assistant Principal.

Blum brings a 19-year tenure with WCPS, and has demonstrated versatility and dedication across a range of roles including Department Head for Home/Virtual Learning, AISI Leader, Enhanced Learning Project Team member, and a pivotal figure in the WCPS Summer School, among other contributions.

"Darcy's extensive experience and proven dedication to Wolf Creek Public Schools makes him the ideal candidate for the Assistant Principal position at Lacombe Outreach," said Sonja Dykslag, Assistant Superintendent of People Services. "His innovative approach to education, combined with a deep understanding of the needs of our students, ensures that he is well-prepared to continue in a leadership role at Lacombe Outreach and in delivering exceptional educational opportunities.”

His comprehensive experience within the education sector is further solidified by his Master of Education from Wilkes University.

Blum takes on the role as Scott Shimp has returned to classroom teaching full-time.
