The Nature Conservancy of Canada is giving you the opportunity to talk about the ‘birds and the bees’. The organization is hosting a virtual Nature Talk on Wednesday, April 5 at 5:30PM that will be diving into all things to do with nature as well as some big questions.

“Many people wish to protect nature around them but may need a bit of guidance and advice,” said Mhairi McFarlane, PhD. McFarlane is a director of science and stewardship with NCC.

“By devoting even a small portion of their lawn, garden or balcony planters to native plant species, people can give biodiversity a big boost. NCC encourages people to consider using a portion of their growing space as a haven for native species, to support the plants, insects and animals that are our natural neighbours,” said McFarlane.

Here are some common questions that will be talked about:

  • What are the best plants for birds, butterflies and bees?
  • What native plants should I put in my backyard or on my balcony?
  • How can I get involved if I don’t have a garden or a balcony?
  • How can I squirrel proof my bird feeder?
  • No Mow or Slow Mow May — should I try it or not?
  • How can I make sure my birdfeeders aren’t spreading diseases, like avian flu?
  • Addressing misconceptions about bees in your yard and how to minimize wasps

The event is totally free and you can tune into the Nature Talk on Facebook Live. You can find the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s Facebook page here.
