A plumbing and gas inspector for the city of Red Deer has added his name to the number of people in the UCP nomination race, vying for the empty MLA seat in the riding of Innisfail-Sylvan Lake.

Victor Sloboda is a father of six and a long-time coach for Sylvan Lake Minor Football where he has made his home since 2000.

He's also had a long time interest in politics, and felt this was the right time for him to run.

He says his goal is to help unite all levels of people in the province, and help to eliminate government regulations that he feels prevent people from reaching their full potential.

“Especially when it comes to the economy, and being environmentalist, and being productive members of society. If government interferes too much with those things, I just fear that people don’t have the freedom to be entrepreneurs, and discover what they can do.”

He says besides helping to cut government regulations to spur entrepreneurial growth, he hopes to help unite all levels of Albertans together for the common of goal of bettering us all.

“Those teenagers who are working at the convenience stores and restaurants and trying to earn some money, all the way up to our seniors who have lived in this province all their lives and have worked hard to get to where we are. They all have an opinion of what we should be doing, and I would like to listen to that opinion and see if there is any way I can tie them all together, and bring unity to all of us together.”

A by-election date has not yet bene announced, since the seat was vacated when disgraced former MLA Don MacIntyre resigned in early Feb, after it was revealed he was facing charges of sexual assault and sexual interference.

The by-election date must be set before August 5th.
