From RCMP Media Relations:

A repeat offender known to be active in multi-jurisidictions, and wanted on two warrants out of Rimbey Detachment was successfully taken into custody yesterday by the Rural Crime Reduction Project.

On April 2, Rimbey RCMP responded to a complaint of a credit card fraud at a local business.  Investigation determined that 29-year-old Marcia Gold, and 49-year-old Craig Oliver were suspects.  Charges of unauthorized use of credit card data were sworn, and arrests warrants were issued for both subjects.

On May 9, Rimbey RCMP received another complaint of a credit card fraud at a different business.  Craig Oliver was again identified as a suspect and accordingly five charges were sworn, including unauthorized use of credit data and an arrest warrant issued.

Rimbey RCMP collaborated with the Rural Crime Reduction Project currently working in the Wetaskiwin region in order to locate Oliver and stop his activities.  The RCRP actively targeted Craig and on May 17, at approximately 1:50 arrested him outside of a residence in Westerose.  While the RCRP was preparing to effect his arrest, Oliver was witnessed to commit an assault against a female.  He is facing new charges for this incident of assault, fail to comply with conditions of a Recognizance, and a charge under the Traffic Safety Act.

Oliver was taken to Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachment where a judicial interim release hearing was held.  He was released on bail and scheduled to appear in Provincial Court of Alberta in Rimbey on June 1, 2018.

“Our communities are well supported by the Rural Crime Reduction Project” says Sergeant Kurtis Pillipow, Detachment Commander of Rimbey Detachment.  “Apprehending this offender was a priority for not only Rimbey, but various other detachments where he is facing a large number of charges.  We will continue to identify repeat offenders and work diligently to interrupt their illegal activities.”
