Calling Lacombe a great place to live, work and raise a family, Reuben Konnik is keen to continue serving residents on City Council.

You will see Konnik's name back on the ballot in this fall's municipal election, seeking a 3rd term.

He says some good strides have been made in terms of economic development, but there's more work to be done.

“We’ve got to do more to expand our commercial base. I think we’ve done a lot this last term, in terms of working with developers, we now have Lacombe Market Square that’s ready to go, there’s been some work on developing some commercial land west of the City so I would like to see that continue but I think we need to do more in that area yet, but that’s one of the key things I think we’re still working towards and need to resolve”.

Konnik also points to the City needing to find some better efficiency in terms of how they’re spending money.

“I was one of two Councillors who did not vote for the BOLT bus. I have an issue with the amount of money we are spending there every year; it’s a huge subsidy in the neighbourhood of a quarter of a million dollars per year we spend on that bus for very limited ridership. I know there are those out there that love the BOLT bus and use it continually, but I think it’s something we need to revaluate and re-look at again. By August of 2018 we will have spent a million dollars on that bus for very few riders”.

The former long-time downtown businessman and new real estate agent says some ongoing infrastructure deficiencies also need attention, clearing a backlog and ensuring these types of upgrades don't fall to the backburner.

“Downtown area, there’s an older part of downtown that needs some lighting issues addressed, and again that’s something left over from previous Council’s, those old subdivisions the lighting isn’t very good, so we need to address that going forward. There’s parts of this community that don’t have sidewalks, that’s come to the forefront lately, we need to address that. Len Thompson Drive is not paved, it’s the only gravel road in town that we maintain, and we should really fix that”.

Konnik maintains a school bus route and with 4 kids of his own, he's keen to continue looking at recreation and culture opportunities in Lacombe.
