Blackfalds Town Council has approved concept plans for a renovation project on the lower floor of the Civic Centre.

According to Mayor Melodie Stol, one community group will be moving their programming to a new location, freeing up some much needed space for administration.

“We are moving our senior’s programming, our senior’s space into our community hall. We’re doing our big expansion and part of that of course is Parent Link but a lot of people don’t often know we’re expanding off the back of the community hall to move our seniors. So that’s taking the senior’s space out of the town office and moving it there, and now we have to reconfigure that space and we’re trying to make it more office space for our office staff”.

Stol says office space has been tight for one department in particular.

“Blackfalds of course is such a fast growing community, I mean we need a lot of support staff to accomplish the things we want to do and area where we need the space for is Planning and Development. We build 100’s of homes every year in Blackfalds and that department needs the space because we need the staff to support that, there are statutory requirements on how fast we have to process a permit so you actually need staff to work on it”.

It's about a $300,000 project, with hopes work could start this year.
