Red Deer RCMP worked with Sylvan Lake RCMP to arrest and charge a woman after a stabbing on July 13, while a number of other recent arrests by Red Deer RCMP involved crimes in progress that were reported by citizens, including frauds, the recovery of several stolen vehicles and a break and enter in progress. Red Deer RCMP appreciate the continued engagement of citizens, and their commitment to working with police to prevent crime and arrest those responsible.

July 13 – 2017903048
Shortly before 1:30 pm on July 13, RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing, after a woman was stabbed in the stomach at a Red Deer residence and then dropped off in a field in Sylvan Lake after an altercation with a woman who was known to her. The victim was able to get to a nearby business where staff called for medical assistance for her.

Sylvan Lake RCMP and Red Deer RCMP worked together on the file, with Sylvan Lake RCMP responding to the initial report, then locating and arresting the female suspect in the area near where the victim had been dropped off. Red Deer RCMP continued the investigation after determining the stabbing had occurred at a residence in Red Deer. The victim was treated at Red Deer Hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

34 year old Janis Colleen Grant faces a charge of aggravated assault (CC 268) and was remanded to appear in court in Red Deer on July 19. Her next court appearance will be July 21 at 9:30 am.

July 14 – 2017910032
At 3:30 pm on July 14, RCMP responded to a report of attempted fraud after a man attempted to use and then replace a stolen fleet gas card. When RCMP arrived, the suspect fled on foot through the building and out the back door; he was arrested after a brief foot chase with assistance from Police Dog Services. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was driving a stolen car and was wanted on three outstanding warrants out of Rocky Mountain House for theft (X 2) and possession of stolen property, and three more warrants out of Red Deer for possession of stolen property, failing to appear in court and failing to comply with conditions.

28 year old Ryan Shane Schuster faces the following charges in addition to his warrants:
· Criminal Code 403(1)(a) – Identity fraud
· Criminal Code 380(1)(a) – Fraud X 2
· Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
· Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
· Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions
Schuster made his first court appearance in Red Deer on July 17 and will appear in court again on July 24 at 9:30 am.

July 15 – 2017917463
Shortly before 9 pm on July 15, RCMP located a stolen truck in a parking lot in north Red Deer and arrested the 17 year old male who was found to be driving it. The truck had been reported stolen out of Sylvan Lake on July 14. The youth, whose name cannot be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of break-in instruments. He was scheduled to appear in court in Red Deer on July 20 but did not appear; his charges are now moving to warrant status.

July 16 – 2017919065
At 2:45 am on July 16, RCMP responded to a break and enter at an east side liquor store, and arrested a 17 year old male. The youth, whose name cannot be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, will be charged with break and enter and theft under $5,000, but those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.

July 16 – 2017920831
Shortly after 1 pm on July 16, Red Deer RCMP on patrol in an identified crime hot spot located a parked car bearing a license plate that had been stolen out of Red Deer on June 21. RCMP took the suspect into custody without incident. A 46 year old faces charges for possession of stolen property under $5,000, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without a license; those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.

July 17 – 2017923712
At 4:30 am am on July 17, RCMP responded to a report of suspicious activity at a downtown apartment building, after a suspicious male was heard entering the basement area. RCMP responded and arrested the suspect, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant at the time of his arrest for breaching his probation.

34 year old Christopher Lee Walters was charged with an additional count of failing to comply with probation and a count of failing to comply with conditions. Those charges were dealt with by the court on July 18.

July 17 – 2017927342
At 5:45 pm on July 17, RCMP responded to a report of a man with a firearm in a parking lot in south Red Deer after a vehicle owner found the suspect going through his truck. The suspect was reported to have pointed a firearm at the truck owner before fleeing in a waiting white Jeep Cherokee. RCMP began to search for the suspect vehicle and located it driving nearby; police executed a traffic stop, at which point they found the suspect hiding in the back seat. Police have not recovered the firearm at this time and continue to investigate. The female driver was released without charge.

27 year old Robert Theus Handy faces the following charges:
· Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Criminal Code 334(b) – Theft
· Criminal Code 430(4) – Mischief under $5,000
· Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation
Handy will appear in court in Red Deer on July 21 at 9:30 am.

Shortly after 6 pm on July 18, RCMP were flagged down by a citizen regarding a suspicious vehicle. On investigation, RCMP located a man in the parked vehicle in possession of what is believed to be hydromorphone.

31 year old Travis Patrick Meyers faces the following charges:
· CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance
· Criminal Code 145(5.1) – Fail to comply with conditions
Meyers will appear in court in Red Deer on August 18 at 9:30 am.

July 18 – 2017932800
Shortly before 6 pm on July 18, RCMP responded to a report of an attempted theft of gas from a West Park business after a man was seen attempting to leave without paying for a jerry can of gas. A witness chased the male suspect and attempted to detain him, and the suspect displayed a knife and fled on foot. RCMP responded and began a search for the suspect with assistance from Police Dog Services. The suspect was identified during the course of the investigation, and RCMP located him nearby and took him into custody.

18 year old Isaiah Sean Noble faces the following charges:
· Criminal Code 344(1)(b) – Robbery with weapon
· Criminal Code 88(1) – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation X 2
Noble will appear in court in Red Deer on July 28 at 9:30 am.

July 19 – 2017935061
Shortly after 8 am on July 19, Red Deer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. RCMP located the parked the red GMC Sierra and confirmed that it had been reported stolen out of Sundre. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and was found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant at the time of his arrest. A 54 year old man faces a charge of possession of stolen property over $5,000; that charge has not yet been sworn before the courts.

July 19 – 2017935546
At 9:30 am on July 19, Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious truck parked in a hotel parking lot on 67 Street. On arrival, police located a man and a woman in a stolen Ford F350. The suspects were found to be in possession of stolen property including a number of credit cards and a commercial cheque, as well as methamphetamine and heroin.

29 year old Bryan Anthony Penso faces the following charges:
· CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance X 2 (methamphetamine. heroin)
· Criminal Code 129(a) – Resist/ obstruct peace officer
· Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000 X 2
· Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000 X 6
· Criminal Code 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation
· Criminal Code 145(1)(b) – Fail to comply with conditions
Penso was remanded and will appear in court in Red Deer on July 21 at 9:30 am.

27 year old Shanelle Cardinal faces the following charge:
· CDSA 4(1) – Possession of Schedule I substance (methamphetamine)
· Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000 X 2
· Criminal Code 355(b) – Possession of stolen property under $5,000 X 6
Cardinal will appear in court in Red Deer on July 28 at 9:30 am
