From Rocky Mountain House RCMP:

Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to an attempted armed robbery at the Nordegg Lodge on May 5, and as a result arrested two males who are facing charges and remain in custody.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP were dispatched to an attempted armed robbery at the Nordegg Lodge. Two disguised males drove a truck to the main doors and with a tow rope attempted to steal the ATM. One male suspect was denied access to the ATM as the employee locked the entrance. One male suspect was carrying what is believed to be a firearm. Both male suspects fled in a dark blue Ford F250.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP members located the suspect vehicle on Highway 11. When a traffic stop was initiated the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed. RCMP members were able to successfully deploy a spike belt and disable the vehicle on Sunchild Road. Both occupants fled on foot into the nearby bush.  The RCMP recovered a sawed off shotgun, which the driver was seen to discard into the ditch. RCMP determined the vehicle was previously stolen from Edmonton.

The area was contained and with the assistance of the Police Dog Service and the public, the RCMP were able to locate one male suspect who was arrested and placed into custody. The second suspect was later located walking along the Highway and was subsequently arrested and placed into custody.
