The historic Piper Creek Lodge will be receiving a new name as residents are set to move to a new dwelling in 2021.

In 2019, the construction for the newly named Crimson Villas began in order to replace Piper Creek Lodge and the Twighlight Cottages which are managed by Bridges Community Living. Piper Creek Lodge is now 65-years old. The Government of Alberta has invested $28.3 million dollars in the new building’s construction.

The new facility’s name comes from Red Deer’s official flower the the Crimson Star Columbine.

“Crimson Villas was a name that would keep us rooted in the Red Deer community. It will be a home that will embrace a community for anyone who chooses to live here. The Columbine is a perfect flower that brings in pollinators to create a fresh atmosphere. We hope this building provides an environment so that the residents have a fresh new environment to develop their community,” said Bridges Community Living Board Chair Rob Elliot.

He feels the new name will represent Red Deer’s heritage, environmental character, beauty, and colour.

The new building will be both a lodge and an apartment building. It will feature enough space for 65 lodge residents and 25 seniors in self-contained units. It is expected to be completed in the spring of 2021.
