The City of Lacombe has promoted Guy Lapointe to Director of Community Services after saying good bye to Debra Juch who has decided to take on a different role to be closer to family.

In mid-July, the City announced that the former Director of Community Services, Debra Juch would be leaving to take on a commensurate position with Yellowhead County. She worked in that role for three years.

“I'm so grateful for the supportive messaging from colleagues and community members about this move — everyone said family first. I want to thank staff, Council, and so many community leaders for the privilege of being allowed to work on such engaging community affairs," Juch said. "Lacombe is a place where everyone is their positive selves every day."

Lapointe takes on the new role after being the City’s Manager of Community and Economic Development for the last 10 years.

“City Council is excited to see Guy Lapointe take on this new role with the City of Lacombe as Director of Community Services," Mayor Grant Creasey said. "Lapointe's commitment to our community and the well-being of our citizens has been proven for over a decade. Council looks forward to working with Lapointe to provide a high quality of life in Lacombe for years to come."

Lapointe is known for the following initiatives:

  • Introducing the grassroots community economic development organization, Echo Lacombe, a non-profit society responsible for managing several business support programs and administering community grant funding.
  • Introducing and growing Echo Energy to over 500 accounts, with all profits reinvested into local community projects and programs.
  • Introducing a new regional transit system, working cross-departmentally and with the Town of Blackfalds and City of Red Deer.
  • Producing several affordable housing projects by leveraging private and public investment and engaging a range of community stakeholders.
  • Orchestrating several high-profile events, including Coors One Horse Town, Rogers Hometown Hockey, and the Allan Cup.
  • Facilitating innovative land development initiatives that expanded the City's commercial tax base and divested it of underutilized properties.
  • Guiding the further implementation of projects identified in the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan utilizing IAP2 principles emphasizing collaboration with citizens and the business community.

Lapointe will continue to build on the relationships he has forged in the City of Lacombe, while working to grow, diversify and expand opportunities in the Community Services Division, which includes Parks, Recreation, Culture, the Lacombe Memorial Centre, the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre, the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex, Marketing, Communications and Community Economic Development.

“I am excited to take on this new role and feel privileged to serve this community and Council,” says Lapointe. “As always, I am committed to fostering positive change and look forward to the new opportunities this position offers.”
