You may have noticed a number of new parking signs around the downtown core in Lacombe as main street construction moved into full swing last week.

It's an adjustment period for business owners, staff and the public alike and while you may have to park a little farther away to reach your downtown destinations, the City is hoping the improved signage helps both visitors and residents find parking at ease.

City Engineering Services Manager Jordan Thompson says those downtown businesses are also working to free up additional parking.

“We’ve been working with the downtown business community to identify places where their staff can park so that they have the opportunity to open up their onsite parking to the public and to their clients. We’re hoping that by allowing them to divert their staff a little bit farther away from the downtown that creates some new parking opportunities within each site for the public to take advantage of”.

Thompson also encourages you to plan ahead; the City has a number of resources including parking maps, progress updates, construction schedules and more on their website.

Construction will progress west on 50th Avenue and continue through the end of October replacing the sanitary sewer mains and making pedestrian, parking and road safety improvements to accommodate future growth.
