The Superintendent of Chinook’s Edge School Division has received the provincial EXL Award for Excellence in School System Leadership. The award is granted to outstanding school system leader who has enhanced the profession of school system administration over the course of their career.

Superintendent Kurt Satcher is known for being “a caring, dedicated, and passionate leader for students and staff,” according to the College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS) release. He is also well known for his ability to make every employee feel valued and his work in establishing structures that ensure voices are heard and communication is happening between teachers, students, support staff, and parents.

He has also implemented a new provincial assurance model for planning and reporting and developed staff learning guides applicable to every employee throughout the jurisdiction.

Satcher was given the award at the Annual General Meeting of the CASS on March 19, 2021 and will be their nominee for the national EXL Award as Superintendent of the Year. The winner of the national award will be determined on July 6, 2021 in Ottawa.

His own senior leadership team says, “Kurt has elevated the profile of Chinook’s Edge and the degree of this division’s success. His expectations of staff are high, as is his appreciation. Kurt is uncannily skilled in his role of educational leader, and Chinook’s Edge is regarded as a highly functioning school division under his leadership.”
