A Blackfalds resident is hoping to keep the Grinch away this holiday season and bring the community together. Cherene Colby is asking Blackfalds residents to take part in singing a series of Christmas carols on their front steps on Christmas Eve starting at 7PM to spread some holiday cheer while we celebrate apart.

Colby said she was first inspired by other posts on Facebook from people who were also trying to bring the community together.

“I was scrolling through Facebook and two or three people had posted a similar idea on the Blackfalds Opinion Page regarding ringing your bell at 6:00 o'clock outside on your front porch as a way to come together in the community,” said Colby.

For a long time, she has enjoyed caroling and thought that bringing people together on their steps would be an opportune time to sing together.

“We had just been talking about going around caroling and stuff like that. I grew up doing that and it's something that I haven't actually seen anybody do in in several years,” said Colby.

So far, she says she’s seen a lot of support online and hopes to see a great turn out.

“I'm getting great feedback from it.  I've made up a littlead to try and push the idea around our community and get people involved. Hopefully it will be heard before Christmas Eve so everyone can join in and participate,” explained Colby.

Although one voice may be quiet, she believes if enough of the community got involved the holiday could be quite magical.

“A lesson from Dr. Seuss for us all, the Grinch can try to steal Christmas but we still come together in these difficult times as a community like the Whos,” she added
