The Lacombe Generals are officially the Allan Cup Hockey West Champions following their game against the Innisfail Eagles on Friday, March 1st in Innisfail.

The Generals took an early lead scoring the first goal thirty seconds into the game. Just before the end of the period, the Eagles managed to tie it up at 1-1. The Eagles took a lead early in the second period, but the Generals came back with two more goals coming out on top just in time for the third period. In the third period, the Generals succeeded in scoring another four goals while for the first half of the third period, the Eagles received a number of penalties giving an advantage to the Generals for the majority of the third period. With one minute left the Eagles made a comeback scoring another 2 goals but it was too little too late.

The game ended with a score of 7-4 for the Generals, and shots on net were 43-34 for the Generals. Goals were scored by Kyle Ross, Kyle Stroh, Evan Oberg, two for Billy Marshall, and two for Levi Nelson.

Throughout the series against the Innisfail Eagles, the Generals planned to use their speed and endurance to their advantage.

“We knew what we were coming in against and we knew that the power play was their go-to thing and we tried to stay out of the box,” noted player, Dylan Nowakowski early in the series.

The generals won on a full three-game sweep out of the five-game series.

However, despite being the ACHW champions, it won’t be long before we see the Generals hit the ice again for the Allan Cup in April at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex.
