Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools (WRPS) will receive school planning funding for a new Kindergarten to Grade 8 School in Budget 2024.

The new school would replace the existing Norwood School in the northeast area of the City of Wetaskiwin.

Planning funding is provided to support project readiness through site investigation work, further development of the project scope, and partnership opportunities to clarify potential risks and identify mitigation strategies.

With the funding, WRPS will work to prepare for a smooth and efficient transition to the design and construction stages once the final funding is approved.

“WRPS would like to express its sincere appreciation to the provincial government for recognizing a need in the community and for their support in providing the funding necessary to plan for a well-coming, vibrant, and modern school facility which will provide a wide variety of educational opportunities for our students,” a WRPS media release said.

If passed, Budget 2024 includes funding allocation to advance 43 priority school projects in the province, including full construction funding for a new Kindergarten to Grade 5 School in the Town of Blackfalds.
