Remembrance Day is going to be a little bit different this year with the ongoing pandemic. Here are some events you can visit both in-person and virtually to remember those who have fallen.

Remembrance Day Services 


Online Remembrance Day Service in Sylvan Lake

November 11th, at 11:00 AM

A live ceremony will only be open to Legion members, veterans, and their families. The ceremony will be broadcasted through a live stream on the Town of Sylvan Lake’s YouTube channel.

 

Online Remembrance Day Service in Penhold

The town of Penhold will be posting a virtual ceremony that will be availble through their town website. 

 

Online National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa

November 11th at 8:45 AM

Some local legions are recommending the national online Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa as a nice way to remember.

Check out the Flags of Remembrance in Ponoka

The Ponoka Legion has teamed up with Ponoka Home Church and the Ponoka County Regional Fire Services to put up 128 flags representing the 128,000 Canadian lives lost. The flags are located on Highway 2A in front of Centennial Park. 

 

Check out the Flags of Remembrance in Sylvan Lake 

116 flags you can check out along Highway 11 near Sylvan Lake to commemorate 116,000 Canadian soldiers who have died since 1900.

 

Check out the Field of Remembrance at Lacombe's Michener House Museum 

100 crosses have been placed to honour those who's lives were lost at war in Lacombe. The Michener House Museum is located on 5036 51 Street in Lacombe. You can check out this display any time from November 5th to November 15th; however, guides are available on weekdays from 9AM to 5PM. For more information, click here.

Donate blood in honour of those who serve and have served

Canadian Blood Services is encouraging people to donate blood as a way of remembrance. The Red Deer donor centre located at 5020 68 Street  will be open on Remembrance Day from 3 PM to 7 PM.
