As the current pandemic has made things like weddings or birthday parties virtually impossible to celebrate due to size gathering restrictions, the City of Red Deer is offering a unique way for kids to celebrate their special day which is usually reserved for honouring seniors.

The Office of the Mayor will now be accepting requests for birthday letters from the Mayor, which is usually only for someone turning 65 or older, as well as couples with a wedding anniversary of 50 years or more.

“As we work our way through the COVID-19 pandemic as a community, we want to help brighten the days of as many of our residents as we can, especially those children and seniors who are unable to have the birthday or anniversary gathering with friends and family they were hoping for,” said Mayor Tara Veer.
