The Town of Ponoka will be reopening the playground equipment, town-owned tennis courts (near the Ponoka Aquaplex), the outdoor fitness park, and Hamilton’s Skate Park immediately.

Signage in each of these sites has been posted to outline provincial health orders that should be followed by the users of the facilities. As always users are encouraged to keep a two-metre distance from other people not within their household and not make use of the facilities if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19. Users are advised to sanitize their hands before and after use of the facilities.

Those using the tennis courts should keep in mind:

  • Only single play is permitted unless doubles are living in the same household.
  • Players are encouraged to pass the ball with their paddle, racquet, or feet as much as possible to minimize the touch of the ball.
  • Players should also hand sanitize before and after play.

The Town of Ponoka hopes people keep these rules in mind in order to keep the facilities open and safe for everyone.

“If we start receiving reports of individuals not following the public health orders, we may be forced to close some of these outdoor facilities again which is something we really don’t want to do,” said Andrew Jones Town of Ponoka Recreation Coordinator.

The Splash Park, Aquaplex,  and Arena will remain closed to the public until phase three of the reopening process. Phase two of the relaunch is scheduled for no earlier than June 19th and will be based on the current case numbers.
