On Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at approximately 11:41 a.m., Ponoka RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle around the area of 46 Avenue in Ponoka.

On Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021, at approximately 09:06 a.m., Ponoka RCMP received a report of a car on fire north of 46 street on the central east side of the Town of Ponoka.

Ponoka RCMP attended the scene, along with the Ponoka Fire Department who were able to extinguish the fire. Because of the quick response, the fire was extinguished quickly enough that it remained identifiable and it was confirmed that it was the stolen vehicle from Nov. 2, 2021.

The Ponoka Fire Department were able to determine that the fire to the vehicle was arson. Two independent witnesses observed a male walking away from the vehicle just prior to it igniting.

The male suspect has been described as:

  • Light complexion
  • Approximately 5’ 8” tall
  • Wearing a dark colored hoodie, dark colored pants and dark shoes

The behaviour of the male suspect was described as acting very suspiciously-- continually looking back at the vehicle before it was on fire.
