The Red Deer Hospital Lottery named their 2020 winners on Friday, with Debbie Irwin of Stettler taking home the grand prize, a Sorento Custom Homes house valued at $870,000.

During the phone call placed by Cynthia de Boer, Red Deer Regional Health Foundation's event manager, Irwin was in clear disbelief of the news.

Trevor Greenlea of Red Deer was the mega winner of the Mega Bucks 50/50, and was equally surprised to Irwin to hear he was one of this year's grand prize winners.

Greenlea said he's never won anything close to this in his 73 years, and was overwhelmed and overjoyed to have the opportunity to help out his family.

He said he couldn't believe the phone call, and thought someone was maybe playing a joke on him - but his $371,000 win is no joke.

Other prizes in the lottery were also announced, including two vehicles valued at over $94,300.

Proceeds from this year's Hospital Lottery are being used to purchase ventilators for the Red Deer Regional Hospital, replacing aging equipment.

Mechanical ventilation requires complex computerized equipment that effectively breathes for patients unable to adequately breathe on their own.

This equipment will be used in Intensive Care, the Operating Room and the Emergency Department on a daily basis for adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
