The Grade 1’s of St. Martin Porres School raised $815 for the Central Alberta Humane Society an animal rescue based in Red Deer as part of a social justice project.

“We as a school community are so proud of our Grade 1 students for the time, effort and energy they committed in taking action to show their love and compassion for animals,” said Principal, Dorice de Champlain at St. Martin de Porres School.

The charity was a favourite amongst students who fundraised by creating and selling mask straps. The mask straps were made out of beautifully patterned ribbon, including paw prints and cats. Students were involved with creating straps by cutting ribbon, organizing snaps, and selling them.  Students also practiced COVID-19 safety measures throughout the project.

“We are delighted these students chose Central Alberta Humane Society for their social justice project. The funds donated will make a difference to many furry friends in shelter. Thank you to these amazing change makers for their positive impact in our community” said Fund Development Coordinator, Melissa Devlin at Central Alberta Humane Society.
