Social Media Breakfast Lacombe (SMBL) has been going strong for a number of years in the City now, and organizer Rieley Kay says the secret to keeping it going is all about maintaining connections and building new relationships.

“It’s really awesome to see people engage, communicate and especially on a platform that’s a very even field. There isn’t a barrier to have those connections and communications and start those conversations,” Kay said.

This session was led by Peter DeWit, Owner of Edge Marketing & Design Inc., the hosting sponsor for this week’s event.

DeWit spoke on the importance of a detailed marketing plan, and using simple strategies to make your social marketing - and general marketing practices - more successful and in tune with your audience.

Creating a clear marketing plan allows for a dedicated focus and understanding of your own business, who it serves and how you can create a solid customer experience. DeWit said writing down your marketing plan can help you, and your team if applicable, to narrow down your focus and get everyone on the same page.

He also said it’s an essential part of any business plan to have a marketing strategy because without it there are no clear guidelines on how to attract customers, maintain their experience and eventually build that into a long-term relationship.

Each SMBL event is hosted in a different space, and numerous groups from the city get involved. This keeps the events fresh for returning guests and allows people to explore various businesses and venues in Lacombe.

Kay said, “It’s grown immensely over the years. It’s been quite a few years since we’ve started and it’s always fun to get into a new location and a new venue and have a chance to check them out. It also gives people a chance to step into spaces that they may not have been in before.”

SMBL will be hosting a special evening event on October 23rd at Blindman Brewing, from 4-6 p.m. Guests will be able to grab a brew and a slice of pizza, and explore marketing from a brewery perspective.
