A woman from Red Deer has been found to be involved with a shooting that took place on May 23, 2022. RCMP were dispatched to the Mayerthorpe Health Centre after staff reported an adult male had been dropped off who was suffering apparent gun shot wounds.  The male was transported to an Edmonton hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Through the investigation led by Whitecourt RCMP and including Mayerthorpe RCMP, Western Alberta District General Investigation Services (GIS), Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services & Forensic Identification Services, it was determined the male had been shot in the hand and leg at a private residence in Blue Ridge.  A female suspect fired a round from a .22 caliber rifle, striking the male, before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.  The firearm and suspect vehicle which was confirmed stolen, were recovered. 

21-year-old Amanda Britney Ann McCarthur of Red Deer, has been charged with:

  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • carrying a prohibited firearm in careless manner
  • unsafe storage of a firearm
  • pointing a firearm
  • possession of firearm for dangerous purpose
  • possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • unlawful discharge of a firearm with intent
  • aggravated assault
  • failing to comply with a release order and undertaking (x2)

McCarthur was also arrested on outstanding Warrants from Red Deer RCMP and Edmonton Police Service.

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, McCarthur was remanded into custody awaiting her first court appearance.
