The Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) executed a search warrant leading to the arrest of two individuals, and recovery of stolen firearms and vehicles. 

On April 10, as part of ongoing property crime investigations within the city of Red Deer, Red Deer CRT with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, Auto Theft South, and members from Rocky Mountain House detachment executed a search warrant on a property located in Clearwater County.

As a result of the search, officers were able to recover 21 stolen vehicles, including motorcycles, dirt bikes, trailers, trucks, SUV’s and a boat, along with the recovery of 10 firearms.

Mac Smith (41), a resident of Clearwater County, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x4
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000x5
  • Possession of weapon obtained by crime
  • Fail to comply with probation order

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Smith was released by a Justice for the court on a release order. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Rocky Mountain House on May 1.

April Sanford (39), a resident of Rocky Mountain House, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x4
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000x5
  • Possession of weapon obtained by crime

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Sanford was remanded into custody. She is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Rocky Mountain House on May 1.
