Red Deer Hospice’s annual live butterfly campaign kicks off today (Monday, May 15, 2023).

Anyone interested can purchase live butterflies to release in remembrance of a loved one, to celebrate a milestone in life or to give hope to someone who needs it, all while supporting end-of-life care in Central Alberta.

Butterflies are often considered a representation of the various stages of life and demonstrate that simple changes and time can make life even more beautiful than before.

“The release of butterflies can be a very healing experience,” said Jerri Taylor, Red Deer Hospice’s Executive Director. “It’s a wonderful way to bring comfort to family and friends who have experienced a loss.”

All butterflies released will be of the Painted Lady variety. This is a thoughtful choice, as they are natural to our area and are beneficial pollinators, helping maintain our flowering plants and habitat.

Butterflies are $25 each and can be purchased on the Red Deer Hospice website at www.reddeerhospice.com until May 26, 2023.All orders will be individually packed and distributed via curbside pick-up at Red Deer Hospice on Friday, June 23, 2023.
