Recreation facilities owned by the City of Red Deer will remain closed beyond June 30th. This is in line with Alberta's Relaunch Strategy, which allows the opening of community recreation facilities to take place in stage 3. There is currently no set date for when stage 3 can occur.

“We originally stated recreation facilities may reopen June 30; however with the province announcing recreation facilities and other recreation amenities must remain closed until Stage 3, The City is required to keep many facilities closed or to further delay openings,” said Karen Mann, Emergency Operations Centre Director. “City staff are working hard to re-evaluate operations over the next few months as we navigate these uncertain times.”

Here's a list of all city-owned facilities that remain closed at this time:

  • Collicutt Centre
  • Recreation Centre
  • Michener Aquatic Centre
  • G. H. Dawe Community Centre
  • Intermediate School (including Culture Services)
  • Great Chief Park and Setters Place
  • Servus Arena
  • Kinsmen Community Arenas
  • Kinex Arena
  • Memorial Centre
  • Festival Hall
  • Pidherney Curling Centre
  • Northside Community Centre
  • Edgar Athletic Fields
  • All community activity centres
  • Programming including Equestrian services at Heritage Ranch

Organized and major sports are also not permitted until stage 3, but neighbourhood sports fields are still open for spontaneous use. Groups can contact facilitybookings@reddeer.ca if they have any questions.

The outdoor pool at the Recreation Centre will not open for the rest of the 2020 season. The opening of spray parks and Discovery Canyon, which are included in stage 3 of the provincial Relaunch Strategy, remain uncertain at this time and will be reviewed once more information from the province is released.
