Ponoka Town Council has voted unanimously to officially appoint Sandra Lund as the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Lund took on the role in September of 2020 after council voted to terminate the previous CAO Albert Flootman without cause.

Ponoka Mayor Rick Bonnett hopes the decision will aid the new elected council in the fall of 2021.

“Given that it’s an election year, the current Council also felt it would be a significant benefit for a new Council to have a strong CAO already in place to guide new Council members through the transition process after they’re elected next fall,” added Mayor Bonnett.

Mayor Bonnett does not intend on running for Mayor in the next election.

Lund grew up in the Ponoka area and has grown in her career over the last ten years. Bonnett noted that she’s skilled and has performed well in her newest role.

“After seeing her in action these past four months, she has impressed Council with her leadership abilities. She’s very intuitive and responsive to the needs of the community, and she moves Council’s direction along very expediently,” said Mayor Bonnett.

Her appointment was effective immediately following Council’s approval of the motion.

“It’s a great privilege and an honour to serve the Town in this capacity and I am grateful to Council for the opportunity to continue leading such a capable and hardworking Administrative team,” said Lund. “We look forward to achieving great accomplishments for our community over the coming year and into the future,” she added.
