Lacombe County has once again elected Paula Law for another one-year term as Reeve for the eighth year in a row.

Born in Lacombe County, Law has been on the County Council for over a decade now, while her family has lived in Lacombe County for 101 years as of 2020.

“For 10 years, I have had the honour and privilege to sit on County Council, and I look forward to serving an eighth term as Reeve of Lacombe County,” said Reeve Law. “Together, with my fellow councillors, we will continue to speak up for our residents and for Central Alberta on regional, provincial and federal issues – especially at this time, when there are a number of issues that could have a direct and significant impact on them.”

Law says she's honoured to once again be chosen for this position, and she is especially proud of their recent work with the provincially mandated Intermunicipal Collaborate Framework Agreements with surrounding municipalities.

“We had 15 of those and we finished those up, it was over two years to do, and we finished those up prior to the deadline at the end of March. It was a really concerted effort to get those done and it was a lot of hard work, and I think that we’ve got some very positive agreements and frameworks between all of our municipalities.”

She says 2020 shaped up to be the most unpredictable and challenging year in her tenure so far, and says we'll be dealing with the fallout from this year for a long time to come.

“This pandemic and the fallout from it, the downturn in the economy, the low oil prices, putting all this together there going to be very difficult, tight budgets for everybody, so I think that’s something that we’re all going to be dealing with.”

At last year’s Organizational Meeting, Lacombe County Council voted to re-appoint Division 5 Councillor Ken Wigmore to a two-year term as Deputy Reeve.

“I appreciate the trust and confidence my fellow Councillors have in me, and I’m committed to working with this passionate group of individuals to serve Lacombe County to the best of my ability,” said Reeve Law.
