The Parkland Regional Library System (PRLS) has relocated into a new, two-storey head office in the Iron Wolf Crossing subdivision in the south end of Lacombe.

The transition from their previous location on 56th Avenue took place in October, and was made possible by a series of beneficial events, according to PRLS Director Ronald Sheppard. “Our decision to collaborate with our builder, the Tricon Group, turned out to be the best possible scenario,” he explains. “They were key in facilitating the purchase of our old building that allowed us the necessary funding and ability to construct a new building.” The right partnership resulted in a minimal financial impact to its municipal stakeholders. “The sale of the previous office, as well as a $2.4M contribution by the Government of Alberta, ultimately meant that the actual cost to the PRLS Board for our brand-new building was a little over $100,000.00. This amount was easily covered by our reserves, costing our member municipalities virtually nothing.”

The decision to build new was made after a study revealed the need for extensive renovation to the existing PRLS infrastructure.

Incorporated into the new building are a number of features including additional offices, dedicated purpose-built server room, handicapped accessibilities, in-house delivery vehicle bays, better sorting facilities, improved lighting and modernized building mechanics. “When designing this building with the Tricon Group, careful thought was put into how we do business today, and how we see our business in the next 40 to 50 years,”

The newly constructed Parkland Regional Library System building is located in Iron Wolf Crossing at 4565 46th St, Lacombe
