An unusual evening for a Lacombe doctor turned out to be quite alright.

Alberta Health Services representatives say on the evening of March 26th, Dr Matt Unger assisted with the delivery of a baby in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre.

Although the location may not have been ideal, officials say the rate at which labour can progress varies between individuals.

Weather is not believed to have been a factor in the birth, and they say occasionally delivery begins while en route to the hospital.

Officials say “AHS is grateful for the quick actions of Dr Unger; mom and baby are stable and doing well.”

Dr Unger has been practising in Lacombe for the last 10 years and says this was the most unusual place he’s delivered a baby during his career.
