The Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce has officially launched their shop local campaign called ‘Embrace Lacombe’. The campaign funded by the federal government is meant to encourage more people to shop, support, and embrace local businesses.

“This summer the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce was approved for grant funding thanks to a new federal program. Provincial and territorial chambers were the vehicle that the government used to administer the program. Our local application was actually submitted to the Alberta Chambers of Commerce and was subsequently approved. The money is intended to support our local businesses and community by increasing sustainability through marketing, education, and the launch of a new province wide online marketplace,” said the former Executive Director of the Lacombe Chamber of Commerce, Monica Bartman.

The total amount of federal money allocated to the Alberta Chamber came to a total of $1.4 million which was divided by the local chambers in the province.

The online market place provides a platform to search for all sorts of goods and services throughout the province for an online shopping experience.  Businesses also do not need to be a chamber member in order to utilize the site.

“We'd like to thank the Alberta Chambers of Commerce for acting as the conduit for this program. Their task of adjudicating applications from across the province was likely very challenging. We look forward to seeing all of the creative ideas that come out of local projects all across Alberta,” said Bartman.

Over the next few weeks, Bartman expects Lacombe and area residents to see more of their campaign on social media, in public, on the radio, in the newspapers and much more.

“We are excited for the residents of Lacombe to see some of the things we've been working on as we roll them out over the next ten weeks,” said Bartman.
