Some well-known Lacombe ‘celebrities’ are preparing for a night like no other, A Night Among Stars. The fundraiser night is not unlike the television show ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Seven ‘local celebrities’ will teaming up with local professional dancers.  

A Night Among Stars hasn’t been hosted for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Big Brother’s Big Sisters Lacombe & District Executive Director, Breanna Berthiaume is excited to have the fundraiser back this year.  

“We've had that that break and that delay, but it was very successful back in 2019 or 2020 right before the closures happened... The event filled out and everyone had had a blast celebrating that night and just enjoying themselves because it is a it is a formal event and everyone loves to get together. It's a great meal and lots of energy,” explained Berthiaume.  

This year’s ‘celebrity’ dancers include:  

  • Charmen Baron, Co-Owner of Lionel’s No Frills and Mortgage Assistant at TMG  
  • Darren King, Commercial Insurance Broker for Sims Insurance 
  • Jeff Pollard, Nowco Home Hardware 
  • Ben James, Central Alberta Realtor 
  • Will Hendrickson, Black Stack Mechanical  
  • Wendy Griffin, Community Project Coordinator for the Lacombe and District FCSS 
  • Ben Darnell, EMT and Personal Trainer at Snap Fitness 

The ‘local celebrities’ have pledged to fundraise money for Big Brothers and Big Sisters Lacombe and District which will be going towards their mentoring program. The winning dancer will be chosen through a voting process. Currently, all involved dancers are practicing regularly for the big night. 

Berthiaume says no donation will be wasted as Lacombe Big Brothers Big Sisters program continues to grow.  

“When we talk about it in 2022, our program numbers and our ability to serve youth in the community grew substantially. These dollars are very much needed to going into 2023. As we want to continue to be able to support that higher level and potentially even continue to grow if we can,” added Berthiaume.
