The LCHS Rams football team played their first season game against the Hunting Hills Lightning on Friday, September 20th at the ME Global Athletic Park after a series of three exhibition games.

The Rams faced a difficult first quarter that seemed to put the team off to a bit of a rocky start while the Lightning got ahead. At the end of the second, the Rams appeared to get their feet off the ground when Rams player, Gabe Hiebert received the first touchdown of the game.

Brian Ross, Head Coach for the Rams thinks the team needs a bit of time before they can fully settle into the game.

“Once our linemen are able to figure some stuff out—and that’s going to be our weakness awhile—we’ll be okay,” said Ross.

The Lightning played consistently throughout the game and despite the Rams best efforts, Hunting Hills won the game at 34-11.

Ross believes a couple of injuries cost the team a couple of key players.

“We were expecting some guys to be prepared and a couple of injuries really bit us right before the game. So, it was tough to prepare for that way.”

After four weeks of exhibition games, Ross is happy to begin the league’s season and despite the loss against Hunting Hills, believes that the Rams will be successful this year.

“We’re going to be fine. Once we get all our guys back and healthy, we’ll be okay. I mean Hunting Hills is the real deal and you know we will prepare for the other two groups; we’ll prepare for Lindsay Thurber, we’ll prepare for Notre Dame and see what they can bring us,” explained Ross.

The Rams hit the field again on next week on September 27th at 7:30 PM at the ME Global Athletic Park where they will take on the Lindsay Thurber Raiders.
