Lacombe Minor Hockey is beginning to wrap up another exciting regular season with playoffs just around the corner for some teams. On Sunday, February 23rd, the Atom A Rockets played the Cochrane Rockies for a chance to move onto the next round of playoffs.

Unfortunately for the Rockets, they lost 16-8 and were eliminated from playoffs. However, Head Coach, Barton Ten Hove wasn’t too discouraged by the loss.

“The game was good. All the kids showed up they played hard. We had all the effort there so you can’t ask for much more than that.”

Ten Hove said he has a good-spirited team despite any outcome of the game.

“We get scored on quite a bit but they always have fun. It’s never been a problem in the locker room the kids are always smiling after the games over doesn’t matter. It’s a good group of kids that way,” said Ten Hove.

Overall, the coach said the team experienced a very successful season and had a few successful tournaments.

“The season went as expected. We got into tier 1 which is where we wanted to be. They’re good teams up there. We had good tournaments. We won our first tournament got gold in that one, second in our second one and then fourth in the third tournament but it was a good year all around,” said Tenhove.

Many of the younger teams that have already been eliminated from playoffs including the Atom A Rockets and the PeeWee A Rockets are looking to fill their practices up with scrimmage games against other teams to close off their season.

“We’ll see what’s out there. Maybe we will see if a tier two team wants to come play us and see how we stack up against them. Have some fun, and maybe get some parent-kid games going,” added Ten Hove.
