The Lacombe and District Family and Community Support Services will be offering their first ever spring edition of Fill-a-Fridge. Fill-a-Fridge is usually offered during the holiday season providing families with certificate so that they can fill their fridges with food of their choosing.

Families looking for a little help with their grocery bills are encouraged to pick up an application.

“You can pick them up here at the FCSS office. You can also apply online at www.lacombefcss.net or at our partners which is Alix Area and Community Resource Center, the Clive FCSS, and the Bentley Community Services,” said Jan Pocock, Special Projects and Volunteer Coordinator with the Lacombe FCSS.

Families that are considered low-income are eligible to apply for the program. The FCSS will also take into account the number of dependents you have living with you.

“We would look at your notice of assessment and we’d see if you qualify,” added Pocock.

This spring, she says the FCSS office is responding to a need in the community for a bit of assistance.

“We have been hearing individuals are really struggling to handle the household costs that just continue to rise and rise right now,” said Pocock.

Due to the number of donations the organization received during the holidays, the FCSS is able to offer the spring edition of the program.

“We can only offer this because of the amazing community that we live in. We had such a generous response to the Christmas Fill-A-Fridge and that is why we are able to offer this program at this time,” she added.

The Fill-A-Fridge program helped 592 families over the holidays. Pocock is looking forward to helping even more with the spring edition of the program.
