It’s National Truth and Reconciliation Day and Canadians will be honouring individuals who have been affected by residential schools.

Notably, on this day students and people have worn orange shirts to show their support for Phyllis Webstad who had beloved orange shirt taken from her at her first day of school at St. Joseph Mission Residential School in 1973. She was instead given the school’s uniform. The ordeal left her with a feeling of worthlessness and insignificance. The orange shirts now are used as a reminder that every child matters.

Aside from wearing an orange shirt, here’s a look at some our stories showing the ways our local municipalities and organizations are beginning their journey towards reconciliation this year.
