Earlier this month, Former Mayor of the Town of Sylvan Lake, Susan Samson received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal. The recognition honours Albertans who have dedicated themselves to family, community, and country.

"Susan is not only a member of the committees she serves, she is a doer," says Mayor Megan Hanson. "She defines what it means to be a Laker and unselfishly puts the needs of her community first. She works hard to keep Sylvan Lake an incredible place to live, work, and play. We are very fortunate to have Susan and her many contributions in our community."

Samson served as mayor from 2007 to 2012. She is currently serving as the Chair of the Urgent Care Committee and helped to create the Advanced Ambulatory care. The health and wellbeing of Sylvan Lakers has always been a focus for her. Samson is also part of a task force with goals to bring more healthcare workers to the community of Sylvan Lake.
