Due to the new COVID-19 gathering restrictions, Lacombe Regional Tourism has unfortunately had to cancel the fireworks show planned for December 18th at Cranna Lake.  This is not the first cancellation due to the pandemic, but thankfully the organization has adapted to creating dynamic virtual experiences for Lacombeand area residents.

Support Local Artists and Crafters Online

Last month’s provincial update meant that the annual Under $100 Art Market had to be cancelled. Now, artists are selling their work online with the crafters involved in the Christmas Market.  The cancellation came as a large blow to many local artists who haven’t had many opportunities to sell work this year but now the online avenue gives artists the option to sell work online locally.

“The artists were so good. They were disappointed, but they understood. Frankly, I think some of them were quite relieved to you know, given the increase of COVID numbers in the area,” Community Services Executive Assistant for the City of Lacombe Maureen MacKenzie.

So far, they’ve had 14 artists sign up to sell their work online. You can check their work and other items here.

Watch a 'live' performance

Additionally, Lacombe Regional Tourism is offering a wide variety of programs that you can participate in online with your household. They are offering out 100 free viewings of Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol. You can sign up for that service here but keep in mind only 100 viewings will be given out.

Virtual Historical Tours

The organization has also shared a new project called “On this Spot.” On this Spot is an app you can download on your mobile device that shares an assortment of historical information, tours, and then and now pictures of local areas in the following municipalities:

  • Alix
  • Bentley
  • Blackfalds
  • City of Lacombe
  • Clive
  • Eckville

You can check out the app here.

Christmas Light Tours

As always during this time of the year, people get creative with their house decorating. Now is the time to go for a stroll or pile your household in a vehicle and enjoy all the light displays around town. Lacombe Regional Tourism has also made that easier with their Community Lights and Displays Map. Remember to vote for your favourite house so they have a chance to win a gift card. You can vote until December 20th.
