Winter has definitely made a come back in Alberta.

Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for areas in our province including Whitecourt, Fox Creek and Edson. There are no warnings in place yet for Central Alberta, but we can expect some very cold temperatures with extremely cold wind chills.

The Lacombe Weather Centre forecast for today is calling for a high of only -22, but with a wind chill will feel like -27 at times with a risk of frostbite.

Overnight the temperature drops to a low of -35 with a wind chill of -45. Make sure you plug your vehicle in if possible.

Forecast for Friday, a high of -21. Wind chill -41 in the morning and minus 28 in the afternoon. Frostbite in minutes.

Temperatures should become more seasonable by Saturday with a high around -15.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
