Construction of a new off-leash dog park is now underway in the Town of Ponoka. The new park is being constructed on the east side of 49 Street, south of 57 Avenue, across from the Town of Ponoka Operations Department.

Motorists are advised to please drive with caution in the area and pedestrians are asked to keep a safe distance from the construction site.

The design of the new dog park was developed in consultation with the public over the past year. The new 6.5-acre park will feature:

• Agility equipment for dogs;

• Sheltered seating areas with benches and waste receptacles;

• Double-gated entrances;

• A paved parking lot with overflow parking available at the north trailhead of the Battle River Valley walking trail system located just north of the new park on 49 Street; and

• A walking trail extension that connects with the north trailhead of the Battle River Valley trail system.

The new dog park aligns with Town Council’s strategic priority of enhancing the quality of life for Ponoka citizens through improvements to recreational amenities.

Citizens can learn more about the new dog park and take a virtual tour of the facility on the Town of Ponoka’s online public engagement site at www.LetsTalkPonoka.ca under ‘Current Projects.’ Construction of the new dog park is expected to be completed later this summer. A grand opening celebration will be held once the park is ready to open. Stay tuned, as more details will be posted on the Town website and social media pages closer to the opening date.
