You would think that after 54 years of living here I shouldn't be surprised that it could snow in October. Yesterday I thought I saw a snow flake but then kind of put it off as some dust in the air or something like that. Just five minutes later I could hardly see across the street because of the flurries coming down.

I had already done all my seasonal preperations for my home but it was at this point I realized that I need to get my vehicles ready for the winter as well.

I pulled out all of my old jackets, blankets, gloves and toques to store in the back of my cars. I also made sure to put in my emergency kit as well. If you don't have one, I would recommend getting one ready for every vehicle in your household.

Some of the items to put in your kit should include:

  • booster cables
  • extra winter clothing
  • blankets
  • a flashlight with extra batteries
  • non perishable food items such as protein bars
  • candles with matches
  • a reflective vest (in case you need to walk)
  • multi-purpose tools
  • an extra charger for your phones
  • fire extinguisher
  • emergency phone numbers
