UPDATE: 

Red Deer RCMP and the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) have completed their work at the Waste Management Facility and have determined the suspect device is not dangerous nor suspicious in nature. It was determined to be a discarded prop used in paintball and contained only dish soap.   

The Waste Management Facility remained operational throughout the investigation, with a small area cordoned off to ensure public safety. This area has now re-opened.

Red Deer Emergency Services was also on scene and provided assistance.

Public safety was a primary concern throughout the police response and the public is thanked for their patience.

Red Deer RCMP are currently on scene at the Waste Management Facility at 1709 – 40 Avenue investigating a potential explosive device.

A portion of the facility has been cordoned off, but the facility remains open for regular business at this time. The RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) is on route from Edmonton for further investigation.

RCMP do not believe there is a risk to public safety at this time.
